Zune Marketplace is one of the perhaps most important corner stones of Microsoft’s new platform, which is revolving around the new portable media player Zune. Zune is suppose to battle iPod and to do this you need something to act as an equivalent to iTunes Store, which serves iPod owners with all the material they want, at a cost of course. Zune Marketplace is Microsoft’s answer to iTunes and is just llike Apple’s software an application that both handles your media library and lets you connect to an online music and movie store if you want to expand your personal collection.

Zune Marketplace‘s store will have a library containing over 1 million songs, but there is no information about what format they will be in and what copy protection they will use. Except from regular impulse pruchases you will be able to sign a Zune Pass subscription which allows you to download as much media you want for the same amount. The details regarding Zune Marketplace is still a bit uncertain but the service and the software is delivered together with the player in the USA.

“Zune makes it easy to find music you love — whether it’s songs in your existing library or new music from the Zune Marketplace. Easily import your existing music, pictures and videos in many popular formats and browse millions of songs on Zune Marketplace, where you can choose to purchase tracks individually or to buy a Zune Pass subscription to download as many songs as you want for a flat fee.”
