Tomshardware visited the university of Thübingen. There, a 70 TB backup solution was created, using 576 160 GB 5400 rpm IDE drivers from Maxtor. Although IDE drives are not designed for this purpose, their low cost becomes an important factor when looking to backup solutions. Other possibilities would be SCSI drives (too expensive), or backup tapes (too expensive, too much work envolved). The only big disadvantage of IDE drives is that they are not as portable as most tape solutions…
