DFI LAN Party NF590 SLI Intel Edition looked like a very promising motherboard for overclockers working with Intel’s Core 2 Duo architecture but after that the first samples appeared DFI decided to cancel the development of the board. The reason was that it wasn’t happy with NVIDIA’s Intel-version of nForce 590 code-named C19. It has since then announced that it will instead focus on the new version of the chipset, NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI Intel Edition C55. At VR-Zone they’ve had a C19-based LAN Party board in the test lab and except from a immature BIOS they were very pleased with the board.
After updating the BIOS with NVIDIA’s reference for the C19 chipset they managed to get DFI’s motherboard prototype moving and after a whole bunch of voltage modifications, signed Shamino, they had an interesting SLI platform for Intel’s Core architecture. Said and done, Shamino paired the doomed DFI motherboard with two NVIDIA GeForce 7900GTX graphics cards in SLI and fitted them with some decent cooling.
The result was a mighty impressive 3Dmark06 score at 16 317 points, the second best result to be registered and this was done with a motherboard DFI didn’t think was ready. An impressive achievement by Shamino and we’re really looking forward to seeing Intel’s C55 chipset in action soon.
