ABIT KV8-MAX3: Athlon64 on a MAX3-board

0

We’ve sniffed up some more exclusive information from ABIT concerning its upcoming mainboard. This time, it’s about the new AMD platform for Athlon64 and a mainboard based on the VIA K8T800 chipset (Socket 754).
What looks most interesting is that this is the second board in ABIT’s MAX3 series and it is the first MAX board for AMD in a long time. As we can see on the pictures, the board uses an OTES cooling, similar to the one on ABIT IC7-MAX3, except for a slightly rounded shape which gives a rather… fluffy impression.
The specifications of the board are pretty similar to the ones of ABIT IC7-MAX3 with Gigabit LAN, SecureIDE, FireWire, S-ATA RAID (6 SATA-channels all together) and 6-channels audio.
There is one big difference to the IC7-MAX3 though, and that is the integrated ìGuru-CPU we reported about earlier. You can also see where the microprocessor will be located, but right now it seems like it’s only a small sticker on the board.
We expect to get more information of the board at Computex and hopefully get an example of ourselves to the testlab soon, together with a pleasant Athlon64.

Lastly, we’d like to tell you that you will see a lot more MAX3 material here at NH in the near future.
