AMD AM3 reference board design

AM3 is the platform that will introduce AMD users to DDR3. While we’re still waiting for the first AM2+ processors to arrive, AM3 processors are not expected until late 2008. These will be made with 45 nm technology, which means that AMD will still be more than 6 months behind Intel in the manufacturing process race. Over at Chilehardware they’ve published a chart of the AM3/AMD RS780 platform (translated). We know that AM2+ processors will work in current AM2 motherboards, but the chart shows that the AMD 7 chipset series is also AM3 compatible. However, since the AM3 socket is far into the future, there’s really no reason for you to sit around and wait for AMD 790/780/770 boards with DDR3.
