AMD attacks Intel P67 with Hudson-D3 chipset

AMD has admitted to extra product enquiries as a direct result of Intel’s chipset problems and now comes new information that points to that AMD will attactk Intel’s platform directly with the coming Llano processor and Hudson-D3 chipset. In a leaked document the company lists the advantages of Hudson-D3 compared to Intel P67.

AMD will use Hudson-D3 with both the desktop Lynx platform and the mobile Sabine. Lynx will with its mid-range processors of the Llano family be a direct competitor to Intel Sandy Bridge and now that  Intel is forced to stop sales due to a faulty SATA controller AMD has set its sight on one of the prime suspects, Intel P67.

A document published by Donanimhaber shows AMD listing the differences between the two chipsets. AMD points out that Hudson-D3 will use a separate clock generator for the processor bus, it supports more SATA 6.0 Gbps units (6 vs. 2), native support for four USB 3.0 ports (Intel has none), PCI 33 MHz support (Intel has none) and an integrated SD controller for external memory cards.

Intel really only has two advantages and that is the integrated Gigabit Ethernet controller. AMD instead relies on third-party solutions, and the RAID 5 support.

The source is claimed to be AMD that is now aggressively working to get the Lynx platform ready for launch. With a planned launch around May for mid-range Llano AMD has the chance of getting out on the market about the same time as Intel will ramp up the Sandy Bridge sales again.
