AMD is hardly in its most proud moment right now, but despite that Intel finished off 2006 strong with the launch of the Core architecture, it was AMD who had made the most progress during 2006. Intel is still the world’s biggest semiconductor manufacturer, with a large margin, but AMD has climbed from the 18th position in 2005, to 8th in 2006. AMD has increased its revenue with a whopping 91.6% while Intel had one of its worse results with a reduced revenue of 11.1%. AMD’s big success is largely because of its acquisition of ATI, but it also made progress on the microprocessor market according to iSuppli.
