AMD graphics driver 8.36.5 – finally support for Linux 2.6.20

0

AMD released version 8.36.5 of its graphics card driver for Linux. The previous version introduced the new control panel, Catalyst Control Center Linux Edition, and it has now been upgraded to version 0.9. This doesn’t mean much news, but at least a series of bug fixes. This includes a better support for cards a PCIe-AGP bridge which had some problems with blank screens. Along with the bug fixes there is localization support. Phoronix noticed two new files; esut.a and glesx.so. These are for TexturedVideo and OpenGL ES, but this hasn’t been implemented yet as far as we know. Last but not least AMD has updated the drivers with support for kernel 2.6.20 and rumors say that when R600 arrives there will be Linux support from day one, instead of six months later as with the X1000 series.
