AMD will continue launching new 65nm processors after the first launch at the start of December 2006. Back then AMD launched its top series, Athlon 64 X2, which got some new family members, but now new information suggests that AMD is planning a 65nm launch of its single-core Athlon 64 series. This circuit has been code-named Lime and will result in two new processor models, Athlon 64 3500+ and Athlon 64 3800+. The new 65nm models have the same frequency and L2 cache size (2.2GHz resp. 2.4GHz and 512KB L2) as its 90nm equivalent, but the power consumption has been considerably reduced, 45W compared to the 62W of the 90nm models.
The launch of the first Lime models will happen soon, but during the second quarter of 2007, AMD is expected to launch a whole new bunch of 65nm processors part of different series. More information about AMD’s 65nm plans can be found at HKEPC.
