AMD has come to its senses and announced another series of price cuts for its budget and mid-range processors. AMD announced this after that Intel announced its price cuts for its much older Pentium D series. All models up to the Athlon 64 X2 5200+ will have their prices lowered. Earlier, models of the X2 series had their prices slashed and the best catch seems to be the previously mentioned 5200+, I.e. if we onlly consider the cut. Before the price cut AMD charged 403 USD for a boxed X2 5200+ processor, afterwards the same processor costs 295 USD.
Except from the older models of the Athlon 64 X2 series several of the Sempron and Athlon 64 models will have their prespective prices lowered. More detailed information about the new prices can be found at DigiTimes.
“According to AMD’s website, pricing for high-end Athlons, including the FX series, X2 5600+ and 5400+ remains unchanged, while the X2 5200+ saw a hefty cut from US$403 to US$295. Reductions continue down the rest of the range with prices falling around US$25 at the top of the scale to around US$15 at the bottom.”
