AMD will be launching an own-brand PC platform for its next generation processor architecture. When the Barcelona architecture, in the shape of AMD Phenom, arrives will be paired with Radeon HD 2000 graphics cards and new chipsets from AMD’s own labs. AMD recently presented two of these chipsets called RD790 and RS790. The difference is that RS790 has an integrated graphics circuit, DirectX 10-capable. At The Inquirer they’ve gathered some pictures and specifications of AMD’s next generation motherboard and it’s extra interesting to see a Radeon HD 2900XT graphics card fitted into a PCIe 2.0 slot.
The new PCIe 2.0 specification offers more bandwidth but also more power to the graphics cards. So despite that the R600 requires about 200W of power you can get by using just a 6-pins power connector, with very little load, as PCIe 2.0 can supply up to 150W all by itself.
More information on AMD’s new motherboards and chipset can be found at The Inquirer.
