AMD is still working on getting its first 65nm-based circuits out on the market and new information strengthen the ones we’ve heard earlier which spoke of a launch in early 2007. The OEM market on the other hand will get its 65nm processos already in December of 2006 according to HKEPC that has come across some information regarding AMD’s coming processor models. The first 65nm processors will be based on AMD’s Brisbane core which is the foundation for the Athlon 64 X2 family and is intended for the new Socket AM2 platform. The four first 65nm models are expected to be Athlon 64 X2 4200+/4400+/4600+ and 4800+. They are identical with the models that will be launched for Socket AM2 on May 23, except from the fact that they come with a refined manufacturing process and thus lower power consumption.

Exactly what improvements there will be with the power consumption remains to be seen. Together with AMD’s launch of the first 65nm processors it will launch its new top models for its desktop platform, but these with the older 90nm process. Among other things we’re expected to see an Athlon 64 FX-64 that will be the first consumer processor by AMD running at 3.0GHz.
