Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) announced a new chipset for AMD XP processors at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany.
This new chipset called SiS748 supports a front-side bus at 400MHz, which gives very strong indications that AMD’s upcoming XP processor based on the Barton core, AMD XP 3200+ will operate with a 400MHz front-side bus. This is a highly expected and logical move from AMD in order to compete with the 800MHz bus from Intel’s next Pentium 4 processor.
AMD XP 3200+ will probably be released around the middle of this year.
