AMD hasn’t launched its first quad-core processor yet and many are those who are waiting for the first models. Until the processors appear in stores we have received some delicious details to think about as DailyTech has published the latest roadmap for AMD’s Opteron series. This roadmap reveals details about AMD’s first quad-core Opteron processors which will be available as the Opteron 8000, 2000 and 1000 series. AMD has a broad launch of its quad-core processors coming and according to this roadmap we can expect no less than 23 different quad-core Opteron processors in 2007, at least being made.

AMD will start with its Opteron 8000 and Opteron 2000 series where the well known Barcelona core will first reveal itself. AMD is expected to start mass producing two models of each series during the second quarter of 2007 and even if the final launch date isn’t revealed these should be the first models of Barcelona to reach us.

All processors are for the Socket F platform where each core has a 512KB L2 cache completed with a shared L3 cache at 2MB. The clock frequencies seems to be between 1.9GHz and 2.6GHz and AMD has as usual divided its series into sub-series with different power consumptions. A more detailed overview of AMD’s coming quad-core Opteron processors can be found below.
