Athlon 64 X2 6000+ recently appeared in stores in Europe and North America and the exciting about this new processor is its clock frequency. The new 6000+ model is namely the first processor of AMD’s Athlon 64 X2 series working at 3.0GHz. AMD reached 3.0Ghz earlier with the launch of its Opteron x56 series, but now the time has come for the desktop market. This is a dual-core though, which brings the achievement to a whole new level. For better and for worse, Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is based on the old 90nm Windsor core.
It turns out that AMD has been able to push the frequencies of the 90nm technology even further, while the overclocking potential will hardly be something to brag about. The price of AMD’s new flagship is about $600/€600.
