AMD is closing in on the highly anticipated launch of the K10 architecture and its first spawn ‘Barcelona’, but up until then it keeps launching new processors and in Japan the latest addition has appeared during a presentation. Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition has namely been unveiled before the coming launch on August 20. The processor will be running at 3.2GHz and will cost somewhere around 220-248 USD. The question is if anyone will spend money on a K8 processor based on 90nm technology now that Barcelona, and later Phenom, is so close.
AMD also demonstrated a system with a Phenom X4 running at 3.0GHz on a RD790 based-motherboard. Once again AMD managed to demo a computer system without showing off the performance of the system. Impressive.
