Cheaper RAID chips for consumers

0

This is the conclusion we can draw from a news story at DigiTimes that focus on Intel’s new ICH5R south bridge. It looks like Intel later this month will launch two new south bridge chips, the ICH5 and ICH5R. And the ICH5R version will be the first south brigde with RAID 0 support on the market.
Despite the fact that the chip only support RAID 0 board makers believe it’s low price will make it a very interesting choice for integrated solutions. As both VIA and SiS are working on similar products this year Promise has decided to cut prices on some of there low-end products. It remains to be seen if other RAID chip suppliers like HighPoint and Silicon Image follows this example. It looks like the prices on RAID chips well be dropping which always is positive for us consumers.
