Core 2 Quadro will have whole new possibilities when it comes to multitasking but to use processor cores also when not using several demanding programs you need multithreading at a completely new level than today. At IDF Intel has displayed a whole lot of systems powered by its new Core 2 Quadro processor architecture and one of the more interesting demos was of a multithreaded game enginge from Futuremark, but, separating it from its 3DMark series, Ice Storm Fighters was not a synthetic test, it’s actually playable game demo. Even if it will hardly be launched as a fully features game it’s completely a different thing than running scripted sequences as in other benchmarks.

Futuremark has developed Ice Storm Fighters for multi-core processors and Intel’s Quad-core achitecture fits perfectly here. At LegitReviews they’ve published a short article about the demo Intel performed with Ice Storm Fighters and it is pretty interesting to see how they use a program called vTunes to check the load the game has on the four cores. Especially as the load seems to be spread evenly among the cores and in practics show the advantages of multithreaded games when using a processor with multiple cores.

Four threads for the games, one each for vTunes and the sound

We are truly looking forward to seeing more game developers adapt multithreading and Core 2 Quadro seems to be more than enough of a reason to do so.
