A minor update to those of you that were worried about how FSAA would work with the Half-Life 2 engine:
“What about FSAA?”
Anti-aliased has been fixed on all cards.
In a chat with employees at Valve, the statement quoted above could be read. It’s certainly great news. They also had some other pieces of information that were of interest:
“Do you use HLSL or Cg for your dx9 shaders?”
HLSL.
Valve has in other words chosen to use Microsoft’s High Level Shader Language, instead of nVidia’s Cg (C for graphics) when it has written its shaders for Half-Life 2. It’ll be interesting to find out what effect this decision will have on the performance of nVidia’s GeForce FX series, as it’s rumoured that these cards only are comfortable with special code written through Cg, rather than the more general output given by HLSL.
