Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 won’t be launched for a couple of months, but already Intel has displayed a working sample of the 3.2 GHz monster with a 1600 MHz FSB. At IDF in the USA, Fugger overclocked a QX9650 to some massively impressive frequencies using his huge cascade. At IDF Taiwan he had access to an even bigger chip (his own phrasing) and it actually performed even better. The Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 was pushed to 5.8 GHz at best, with all four cores enabled, and he managed to improve his own personal best in SuperPi 1M to 8.017 seconds, and this was done live on stage. More information on the live overclocking display by Fugger can be found over at XtremeSystems.
