Those of you who have been paying attention lately, or at least read our CeBIT-reports, knows that Gainward has worked on a water cooling system for GeForce FX. Tom’s Hardware has taken a good look at this. The cooling system seems to work properly with 23 degrees lower temperature than the standard cooling. But 66 degrees celcius on the GPU still is a bit hot, even though acceptable, in my opinion.
The cooling also fits the other FX-cards and when THG’s Lars Weinand started overclocking it, we could see that the board that seems to benefit best from cooling is the FX 5200 Ultra. The overclocking on the FX 5800 Ultra gave a pretty odd result: worse performance than with the standard clock frequencies.
We probably haven’t heard the last of this system and, hopefully, we’ll take a look at this system on NH within a short period of time.
