Over at Firingsquad.com they have taken a closer look at the very popular, alas very demanding game, FPS-game FarCry. They have posted the first part of an article where they evaluate different graphics cards performance with this very impressive game.
The first part only investigates graphics cards from ATi and they pushed ten different cards to the limit. Which isn’t all that hard with this game since it is one of the most demanding, if not the most, demanding titles available of the PC of today.
ATI Radeon 9800 XT is the best performing card of the lineup, and anything else would of course be a bit odd. A bit more a surprising, when you look at the releasedate anyway, is that ATi’s Radeon 9500 Pro is a real fighter and the new Radeon 9600 XT has a hard time to keep up with older sibling in most tests.
We can also notice that graphics cards with 128 MB memory gets problems at really high resolutions and demanding graphical settings where 256 MB-card has a clear advantage.
Personally I have been stuck in front of the computer playing FarCry for a week now and it is both a amazingly beautiful and good game. But as I said you have to have quite a computer and if you don’t want the swap-file to grow to appalling amount you should invest in at least 1 GB of RAM. The game has namely no problem with devouring up to 700 MB of RAM.
Except from the extreme demands it is a very fun game which I truly can recommend to all of you FPS-lovers out there and for those of you who wants to know how their ATI-based graphics cards performs relative to their siblings you can read part 1 of the article at Firingsquad.com.
