The number of people owning an High Definition TV is growing all the time. Numbers presented by analyst company In-stat, dealing with the spread and use of HD TVs in the USA. It turns out that from the number of people who actually own a TV with HD TV support very few actually use it to watch broadcasted HD TV material.

Even if the share of North American that has both HD TV and recieve HD TV signals have increased by 40% in 2008 they are still quite few. In-stat has calculated that there are about 39 million houses with an HDTV while only 22 million of these receive HD signals. But of course, one have to argue that many are using their HDTV as a monitor or watching Blu-ray movies, but these numbers are still low. Worldwide it has estimated that there about 36 million houses using their HDTV to watch HD television signals.

The majority is in the USA, while the rest is mainly located in Japan. Europe is not estimated to reach over 10 million until 2011. These numbers are for houses with a TV that can handle HD signals and is actually used to do that. Even if the numbers are for the USA mainly, yours truly recognizes the scenario with having an HDTV but not the proper TV signals…
