Thought your Rimms and DDR modules would last? Think again.
Infineon Technologies AG said on Monday it started shipping samples of 512 Mbit DDR 2 modules for servers, workstations and high-end PCs and notebooks. This memory will be available in 400Mbit/s, 533Mbit/s and 633Mbit/s data rates per pin speeds. The higher speed module will have an aggregate bandwidth of 4.3-Gbyte/s.
All these chips are manufactured using the 0.11 process. But these technology won´t be available for end users till 2004, Infineon said. The German chipmaker also started shipping 1GB samples of SO-DIMM for notebooks.
Smart phones and PDA´s are also in these company plans, a 512Mbit Mobile-RAM was also produced for testing.
