Intel recently launched a new Core 2 Extreme processor based on its quad-core Kentsfield architecture, but the new QX6800 model isn’t the last of Kentsfield in the Core 2 Extreme series. According to HKEPC, Intel is planning a successor to Core 2 Extreme QX6800 is that it will be paired with the new X38 chipset its 1333MHz FSB support. Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 will be the name of the new flagship and as the name implies it’s the 1333MHz processor bus that is new, but the fact is that the frequency is slightly higher to work with the new multiplier. QX6850 will run at 3.0GHz with the same 2x4MB L2 cache as the predecessors.
Core 2 Extreme QX6850 will arrive during the third quarter and cost $1,000. The same as the other siblings cost today. We will have to wait and see how these stand up to the coming quad-core processors from AMD.
