Intel is continuing its work with quad-core processors and during IDF Taiwan it presented its very latest creation. This creation is nothing less than a quad-core for the mobile market, something we knew was coming sooner or later, and the first [good] samples have now been displayed in public. The processor that Intel displayed at IDF was shipped from factory just three days before the event and, according to Intel, it consist of 840 million transistors and has a 45 W TDP, which is a bit higher than the 35 W of today’s mid-range processors.  In other words, Intel’s new quad-core will drain the battery a bit more than the other processors, but then again, we were kind of expecting that.

“Sources at notebook makers revealed that, at launch, the CPU will fall into the Core 2 Extreme series. The core is part of the Penryn family and the chip will form part of the Montevina platform.”

DigiTimes reports that the processor will reach the market in Q2 2008 and at about the same time we will see the first laptops with this chip.
