Intel will expand its assortment of Xeon processors and roll out no less than 29 new server processors made with 32nm technology. Ten of these houses 10 CPU cores each, which together with Intel’s HyperThreading technology enables each processor to handle 20 threads.
Intel’s Xeon E7 family targets the LGA771 platform and operate at clock frequencies between 2.0 GHz to 2.4 GHz. The processors are based on Intel’s Westmere architecture and comes with 24MB and 30MB cache respectively. The new processors are rated 105a dn 130 W and can be used in system with multiple processors.
The prices are just as impressive as the number of cores and while the entry model costs $2,500 the top model Xeon E7-8870 costs $4,600.
