Intel V8 – a sneak peek at Intel’s 8 core platform

0

Intel V8 was presented during CES in January as a direct reply to AMD’s 4×4. While AMD tried to create a quad-core system by pairing two dual-cores, Intel took it all one step further by pairing two quad-core Xeons. At HotHardware they’ve come across an Intel S5000XVN motherboard with dual sockets and fed it two Intel Xeon X5365 processor working at 3.0GHz, 1333MHz FSB and with 8MB cache, together with 4GB 667MHz FB-DIMMs and a GeForce 8800GTX. In a preview without any kind of overclocking they ran some SiSoft Sandra tests and 3DMark 06 to get some figures to compare with. A CPU score of 6,556 pretty much says it all.
