Intel X48 will replace the just recently launched X38 chipset at the beginning of next year. X48 is not that different from X38, it’s actually basically the same, but comes with official support for the coming 1600 MHz FSB processors, like the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770, and an overall slightly better performance. Over at Anandtech they’ve compared the ASUS P5E3 Deluxe (X38) with the P5E3 Premium (X48). Just the fact hat the names are so similar should be enough for a person to realize that there’s not much separating the two boards, which is also what the benchmarks show. However, when they started overclocking the boards the X48 was able to shine a bit.
