The headline may not sound like much to the common man, but it rarely happens, close to never, that the first revision of a processor actually work to such a high degree. The fact that Intel has actually managed to run Windows with the first tape-out is quite impressive, it’s simply not expected. However, this doesn’t mean that Intel is done either. It just means that it has saved time and best case scenario will be able to cut a few weeks of the launch date. Penryn still doesn’t have a date launch date but only “late 2007”, third quarter at best.
