Bjorn3D doesn’t only test graphic cards but also motherboards such as DFIs Springdale. Sadly enough this motherboard is not at all as spectacular concerning design and features as their “LAN party” model. Its BIOS and overclocking ability also seems to be in need of a facelift.

Want to buy an Athlon 64? Then it might be good to get to know the different chipsets that’s available for these CPUs. OC-Workbench compares three different chipsets from three different manufacturers, VIA K8T800, ALi M1867 and of course nVidia’s nForce3.

A good while after the release of Intel’s Pentium 4-Processor with 850 MHz FSB it now looks like it’s finally time for some alternatives to Intel’s own motherboard chipset. Earlier we got a little mixed reports concerning VIA PT880 and SiS655FX, but now TomsHardware has compared the two side by side. Of course they also included Intel’s well known chipsets, 865PE and 875P, which still performs very well compared to others.
It seems like VIA and SiS are managing quite well against Intel’s own chipsets, but sadly we cant see any overclocking tests, but in SiS’s case it’s not so strange with a reference board. But it has according to earlier reports been the weak spots of the VIA and SiS-chipsets, which in our opinion is important.
If these chipsets can find their ways out to the consumers it certainly looks like the prices of P4 motherboards will drop a lot.
Anyhow it’s a lot of interesting budget alternatives that many system builders probably will take advantage of.
