RD790 is a part of the next generation of chipsets from AMD and not surprisingly this series of circuits will be exclusive to AMD’s processors. Forum user and ChileHardware collaborator metro has posted some interesting information about the coming circuit. As we’ve earlier reported the circuit will have HT 3.0 support and that is confirmed by the reference motherboards they’ve posted specifications for. Among others, we can see support for two PCIe x16 and up to one PCIe 16x (8 lanes) and another PCIe 4x. AMD is namely developing (at least) two versions of the circuit, one for AM2(+) and one for the “enthusiast platform” FX, but both will bring support for the physics solution ATI was working on.
