Over at Fudzilla they’ve published some information on the new B2 stepping for the Phenom X4, also known as Agena, and it seems that AMD has been able to push it to 3.24GHz. Previous reports have stated that Phenom will be capable of 3.0Ghz at 1.38V and a TDP of respectable 120W. If everything goes well, AMD might be able to improve the frequency. Reports about the performance have been few, but indicate that AMD Phenom will be more efficient than Intel’s equivalent at 3.0GHz, clock for clock, which means that AMD could very well beat Intel’s coming Penryn core running at 3.3GHz, at least in theory.
They also report that AMD’s dual-core processor Kuma is capable of speeds beyond 3.0GHz. Kuma will be released in steps after that the two top series Phenom FX and X4 arrives. With some good fortune it seems that Kuma will be able to play along at speeds up to 3.4GHz. Kuma can handle speeds up to 3.0GHz at only 1.25V, B2 stepping of course. By the looks of it AMD is finally getting the pieces together. The fourth quarter will bring many interesting new products and the the future is certainly looking better than ever before for the consumers.
