Nvidia loses an important partner

nVidia might lose one of their primary partners: MSI. MicroStar International is one of the worlds largest manufactor of nVidia-based graphic cards and they are brining in 30 million dollars each year to nVidia. According to the reports, coming from Dow Jones, the reason is GeForce FX. MSI simply doesn’t see the card becoming a best seller, instead they choose to work with ATI’s current line up, the R300 series. MSI could very well choose ATI this autumn as well, meaning that we probably can expect to see both R350 and R400 from Microstar on the shelves.
One aspect ignored in the article is what actions third-party manufactures that buy cards from MSI will take, Creative being a good example. Will they find someone else, or possibly buy from nVidia directly? We will try to find out as soon as possible.
