While CeBIT is happening in Germany, more rumors about AMD’s coming Radeon X2900, also known as R600, have appeared. According to The Inquirer, the delayed launch is actually because AMD has chosen to move on to 65nm with R600. This means that X2900XTX will not only consume a lot less power, up to a third less, but also capable of running at much higher frequencies. TweakTown has on the other hand posted some news that speaks against this as it says that X2900XTX will consume 270W. Whether this is an outdated roadmap or not, remains to be seen.

Bit-tech has come across some information about how R600 will handle video signals. ATI has been praised for its AVIVO circuit and this technology will still be around with the R6XX series, but these cards will also sport a dedicated circuit for decoding video. This will make it possible for even the low-range cards to run 1080p decoding.

The low-end and mid-range cards with HDMI will also be equipped with audio circuits. This is simply because HDMI can handle both audio and video through the same cable. This will solve some of the horrible sync problems that can appear when mixing analog and digital signals.
