Samsung has during the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) presented a new GDDR4 chip which can work at 40% higher frequencies than current chips. It has previously presented memory chips working at 2.4GHz, but these new one work at 4GHz (!). In reality the fastest GDDR4 memories we have are those found with Radeon X1950XTX and they are working at 2GHz. This progress has come far ahead of expected, it was first in 2009 GDDR4 was expected to reach 4GHz. Although, it’s first now Samsung has actually started mass producing memories at 2.4GHz and when we will see GDDR4 memories working at 4GHz in practice is up to Samsung.
