The filesharing protocol BitTorrent has grown to become quite popular and isn’t solely used to transfer copyrighted material, but also for completely legal applications. Many companies use BitTorrent to publish updates for software or drivers, which reduce the load on the own servers significantly. We’ve earlier seen how ASUS has launched a router with integrated support for BitTorrent, which makes it possible to download files through the popular protocol without a regular PC. As long as you activate the BitTorrent download via the PC the router can then handle the download as long as you have somewhere to store the files.
Now BitTorrent.com has announced that ASUS gets company by the manufacturers Planex and QNAP as they’ve launched products with support for BitTorrent. The three manufacturers have launched routers and NAS servers with the protocol integrated into the hardware. According to BitTorrent the following ten products are available today.
- ASUS WL-700gE Wireless Storage Router
- ASUS WL-500gP Router
- ASUS WL-500gW Router
- Planex BRC-W14VG-BT Router
- Planex BRC-14VG-BT Router
- Planex BRC-W14V-BT Router
- Planex BLW-HPMM-U Router
- Planex BLW-HPMM-G Router
- QNAP TS101 NAS Server
- QNAP TS-201 NAS Server
Routers and NAS servers with integrated BitTorrent support is a very interesting solution for those who often download material through the popular protocol. Simply activate a few downloads and turn off your computer, save power and get rid off the noise from the computer.
“ASUS, Planex and QNAP are the first to announce plans to embed BitTorrent’s download manager and client into their respective digital home products. Products include the industry’s latest and most innovative wireless routers, media servers and network attached storage (NAS) devices.”
