It’s been a while since we’ve seen as many chipset manufacturers going for the same platform as with AMD’s Athlon 64. But as we believe competition is highly positive, we welcome this with open arms. At OCworkbench.com, they have looked closer on a Athlon 64 chipset from the fourth largest chipset manufacturer in the mainboard market; SiS.
The SiS 755 chipset has support for both Athlon 64 and Athlon 64FX/Opteron, but as of yet only Socket 754 mainboards have been released with it.
The board was tested against the ALi M1687, nVidia’s nForce3 and VIA’s K8T800.
SiS has at several occasions, despite its rumor to be a tad more low-budget than other manufacturers, managed to perform quite well, especially in pure performance. According to OCworkbench’s tests, this is the case even this time, as the company actually takes the lead in most tests and impresses despite the rough resistance.
Now, we can only wait and see what boards are released with this chipset. Hopefully, we will see the same performance to a low price.
