Sony managed to become the perfect hate object to all too many last year when it became clear that the company had been shipping CDs that installed rootkits without the user’s consent. This led to a big lawsuits, which Sony BMG settled. It then decided to replace the CDs with the unwanted software and pay a small amount of money to the affected people. The story doesn’t end there though as the company has now decided to sue the developers of the “rootkit.” According to The Hollywood Reporter Sony is seeking reparations for the expenses that occurred because of the copy protection that did not function as it was supposed to. Amergence, the company that developed the copy protection, is said to fight the suit and believe that the application worked as it was suppose to.
