The European Commission considering more fines for Microsoft

Microsoft has been having some problems with the European Commission (EC). The EC is simply of the opinion that Microsoft has used its position and dominance on the market in a way that’s not simply appropriate. It has now once again taken a closer look at Microsoft and come to the conclusion that Microsoft is charging third-party companies too much for protocols that allows for cross-communication with Microsoft’s server software. The EC simply thinks the protocols lacks enough innovation to justify the cost of the licenses. Microsoft holds a number of patents for its cross-communication protocols though, so there has to be some innovations in there.

Microsoft has been offering a number of different licenses depending on how much the companies are willing to pay, but the EC has struck down on all of them as they simply think that not even the most advanced license contains enough innovation as these innovations are usually simply solutions to problems that can occur with Windows and not things that would make it easier to work with your current operating system when communicating with Windows.
