The risk of not having heard of the media player Winamp is close to abysmal. It might have been the most popular software MP3 player since the very introduction of the format, and its popularity seems not to have decreased since then. Since the release of the first version, it has been updated several times, and a few new versions have also been released. The latest release was Winamp3, but it had far from the same success as its predecessor, Winamp2.
The developers of Winamp, namely Nullsoft inc, has listened to the critical opinons of its third Winamp and decided to develop yet another Winamp version; Winamp 5.
Winamp 5 is to be a mix between the easy-to-use, functional interface of Winamp2, but with the large numbers of features from Winamp3.
Winamp 5 has now come to the beta stage and Winamp 5.0 Beta 1 is now available for download.
It seems that Nullsoft is back on track with Winamp 5 but it’s always best to have an own opinion on such matters.
The company has also created this new default skin that we like a lot, despite it might be a tad bit big. But no worries, the classical Winamp2 theme is still there for those of you who’d rather use it.
You should keep in mind that this is still a beta that will contain bugs, even though the worst ones are sorted out. You can read about some of the bugs and the rest of the program here.
