Microsoft’s decision to sell an external HD DVD player with the Xbox 360 console seems to have been a smart move, not only for Microsoft, but especially the HD DVD format. In a survey of video games sales in November, you could see that Microsoft sold 269,000 external HD DVD players, which is a significant part of the statistics HD DVD Promotional Group released recently. It namely stated that more than 750,000 HD DVD players was sold in November in North America. This was with the Xbox 360 HD DVD player included, which means that Microsoft’s game console accessory made up one third of the total HD DVD player sales in November.

It doesn’t just show the effects of Xbox 360 on the progress of the HD DVD format, but also strengthens the importance of the current generation of video game consoles to the high definition storage formats. Sony’s PlayStation 3 console is namely even worse/better and made up about 75% of all Blu-ray players sold in North America in November.
