BulletProof-X -failsafe mode for Ubuntu

We earlier reported about the new displayconfig-gtk that will come with the next version of Ubuntu, 7.10. This was certainly a pleasing update that looked to remedy some of the displeasure of handling graphics drivers in Linux. One of the hardest and most annoying problems that can occur, in that area, is an X server that refuse to start. To remedy this, Bryce Harrington has posted some screenshots showing off BulletProofX, a failsafe mode for X. This project was first considered with the release of the first alpha release of Gutsy Gibbon, tribe 1, but it isn’t quite ready yet.



BulletProofX namely launches a configuration screen with displayconfig-gtk when the X server can’t start, instead of the regular error message: “Failed to start the X server…”

Click close and you can set up your graphics card driver and monitor(s):
