AGEIA PhysX will most likely be the first dedicated PPU (Physics Processing Unit) on the market. The circuit is suppose to ease the load on the GPU by handling the heavy physics calculation, making it possible for game developers to create more complex and thus more realistic environments. The reason that we still haven’t seen the card is that the number of games and partners have been relatively few, but this has been improved now that AGEIA has added two new partners in the form of Destineer Studios (Neverwinter Nights, Halo, UT2004, CivIII, Age of Mythology, etc.) which has promised to used AGEIA’s technology with at least four games and Emergent Game Technologies which will add Physx technology to its popular graphic engine Gamebryo 3D.
