In an article at Forbes they claim that AMD might be on the verge of acquiring graphics circuit manufacturer ATI, which is of course big news if so. Where these indications comes from is not very certain but according to Forbes it’s an analyst from RBC Capital Markets that has claimed that this would benefit the entire graphics market. The thing that supports an acquisition is that AMD has lately announced its plans for some big expansions the coming years. At PC Perspective they’ve questioned Forbes’ article and not the least the analysts views on what AMD means by “increased capacity”.

The best way to increase the capacity is hardly to acquire ATI as the manufacturer doesn’t even own even one manufacturing plant. On the other hand if the analyst means that AMD would take over the manufacturing of ATI’s graphics circuits there could be a valid point in the reasoning. This is not the last we will hear about this and would AMD + ATI become reality it would be one of the most interesting acquisitions we’ve seen in a long time.
