NVIDIA is gearing up for broader and better functionality of the coming graphics circuits based on the Fermi architecture. Already it has PhysX and CUDA to boast. In the past it has also focused on accelerating video playback, editing and conversions, and protein folding for finding answers to human diseases, but the next step will be remedy our PCs from viruses.
NVIDIA is said to be working on improving antiviral searches by using the power available with our GPUs, and they should work very well for this. Looking for viruses is highly parallel work, something GPUs are very good at.
Together with faster Solid State Drives this could be another step toward cleaner and safer PC environment. Looking for viruses can be very time consuming and hog resources, but NVIDIA hopes to help here by creating a new use for its graphics cards, something which we can’t enough of.
