Intel Kentsfield seems to be heading for a launch date at the beginning or in the middle of next year and this is one processor model out of the ordinary. Kentsfield is Intel’s next generation Extreme Edition model and instead for as with today’s Pentium D EE, which among other things, offer HyperThreading support, they’ve gone for four physical cores with Kentsfield. It will be Intel’s first quad-core processor for the stationary market and there will not be any problems living up to the EE/XE branding that Intel’s monster processors receive. Kentsfield will use two dual-core Conroe circuits in the same processor which results in four processor cores all in all, even if it’s not four cores in one and the same die.

Kentsfield is expected to be equipped with a total of 8MB L2-cache (4MB per die) and will be made with 65nm technology. At The Inquirer they’ve taken a few photos of what is suppose to be a computer with a Kentsfield processor installed, but there are no details regarding frequencies or such, but the Thermaltake cooler seems to be able to cope without problems.
