AMD is according to most analysts heading towards tougher times the upcoming quarter as Intel will launch its powerful Conroe processor, which looks able to challenge and possibly outmanoeuvre AMD’s K8 architecture. Already a lot of news has been speaking of AMDs optimized K8L architecture as a knight in shining white armor comgin to save AMD and the first rumors even spoke of a launch during the mid or even start of 2007. Just having to wait until then was considered to be way too long for many, but now it seems we may have to wait even longer for AMD’s “reply” to Conroe. According to DigiTimes AMD will not be ready with the K8L architecture for the Socket AM3 platformen until 2008, which means that Intel has plenty of time to establish its Core architecture. It has also received information that the first 65nm K8 processors will arrive during the first quarter of 2007.
