Windows Vista Service Pack 1 has been receiving a lot of attention lately, a lot more than it actually deserves if Microsoft gets a say. First of all, it’s been known for a long time that SP1 would not bring any major changes to the system, far from what SP2 meant to Windows XP. During WinHEC, Microsoft representatives said that SP1 has been receiving unnecessary attention and that Vista’s built-in update system makes Service Packs redundant for normal people. The only people that will actually need the SPs are system administrators that need to install or reinstall a large number of systems and want to keep them updated. Waiting for SP1, just because it’s a SP, is just like waiting for something that is already here, if we’re to trust Microsoft.

During WinHEC there was a system running SP1 on display, something the German site Winfuture managed to take a picture of. Nothing spectacular as it will most likely look and act completely different when it arrives this fall.
