Intel has made a lot of noise before the coming Ultrabook concept. It builds on superthin computers, thinner than 0.8″/20mm, while still offering good performance. It looks like the world’s first Ultrabook from ASUS is near launch.

ASUS UX21 was shown as last as the end of May, but already then it looked ready for market. It has been revealed that UX21 may arrive in Q3, which is the current quarter, but it may take as long as September.

UX21 will be one of several Ultrabooks from ASUS, and its UX series comes with Intel Core i3, i5, i7 processors (Sandy Bridge) with 17W TDP, up to 4 GB DDR3, SATA 6 Gb/s, SSD at 64 GB and 128 GB, up to 7 hour battery time, two USB 3.0 ports, outputs for headphones and microphone and mini HDMI. UX21 has 11.6″ 1366 x 768 pixel display and Core i5-2557M with dual cores at 1.7 GHz, HyperThreading and HD 3000 graphics.

apcmag got the chance to play with UX21:

The Ultrabook concept is interesting and while all companies that develop Ultrabooks have different ambitions ASUS targets Apple MacBook Air. Just like in the video it has realized that you can’t win them all with superior performane and features, but design is just as important with a notebook.

Ultrabooks will be priced at 999 dollar and below, and ASUS is aiming to release UX21 with a lower price than MacBook Air. Consdering there will be other models in the UX series with Core i3 models we can expect even cheaper Ultrabooks in the future.
